What is Jiu-Jitsu?

"Upholding the premise that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are mitigated when grappling on the ground, Brazilian jiu-jitsu emphasizes getting an opponent to the ground in order to use ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and chokeholds. A more precise way of describing this would be to say that on the ground, physical strength can be offset or enhanced by an experienced grappler who knows how to maximize force using mechanical advantage instead of pure physical strength.

Jiu-Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990s, when Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert Royce Gracie won the first, second and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships."

Our Program

Impact Martial Arts in Clinton is proud to announce the reintroduction of grappling to our academy. Led by chief instructor Chris Reitz, who has a brown belt in Judo, a purple belt in BJJ, and many accomplishments in SAMBO (Battle of Brooklyn Champion, Canadian Combat Sambo Champion), all aspects of jiu-jitsu/grappling will be covered in the curriculum, including throws and take-downs, pins and positions, and submissions of all natures. Belt and stripe promotions will be done periodically, and we will be competing in tri-state area tournaments regularly. This training is recommended for students that are fairly comfortable with their current sparring and want to add a new element to their fight skills.
